Giorgi Competition 2022
COMPETITION RULES
Art. 1
The Massimo Giorgi Association announces the first edition of the "Giorgi Competition" for double bass performance, which will take place on 28, 29 and 30 July 2022 in the city of Rome at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory, in via dei Greci 18.
All double bass players who wish to aspire to the three prizes indicated in Art. 2 and assigned by the respective Juries can participate in this edition.

Each candidate will be able to compete simultaneously in the three categories, with the possibility of winning more prizes, as the three juries are autonomous in the judging.

Art. 3
The competition is divided into three tests:
Preliminary round: sending a video without interruptions, according to the program indicated in art.7.
Semi-final: sending a video without interruptions, according to the program indicated in art. 7.
Final: at the Auditorium of the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia at the address indicated above. Execution according to the program indicated in art. 7.
For all tests it is mandatory to use solo tuning (first vibrating string A).
Art. 4
Finalist competitors must present themselves with an identification document at 8:30 am on July 28, 2022 at the Competition venue: Santa Cecilia Conservatory, via dei Greci 18, 00187 Rome. The listening order of the candidates will be drawn at the beginning of the preliminary round and maintained for the following ones.
Art. 5
Applications for registration (according to the attached form) must be received by 30 April 2022 by e-mail to the following address: giorgicompetition@gmail.com and must be completed by:
1. Copy of the identification document;
2. Copy of the receipt of payment of the registration fee for the Competition (see Art. 6);
3. The following contact details: email, telephone or mobile number, residential address;
4. Information on the processing of personal data pursuant to art. 13 Regulation (EU) 2016/679 in the link (click here) duly completed and signed;
5. Disclaimer for the use of images and the publication of photographic and video material on the lin (click here). Duly completed and signed.
6. Calendar:
Eliminatory
- By and no later than 12 June, the candidate must send the video as per the program in point 7.
- On 19 June the Juries will make public the names of the candidates who will pass the next test.
Semifinal
- By and no later than 30 June the candidate must send the video as per the program in point 7.
- On 7 July the Juries will make public the names of the candidates who will pass the next test.
Final
Depending on the number of those selected, the exact dates between those established in the announcement will be communicated: 28, 29 and 30 July.

The mandatory registration fee is € 100.00 to be paid on the IBAN:

in the name of Giovanni Antonioni, indicating as reason:
First edition "Massimo Giorgi Competition" plus name and surname.
The lack of this payment excludes participation in the Competition.
The fee will not be refunded under any circumstances, except for cancellation of the Competition referred to in art. 1.

SEMIFINAL
Performance of one of the following pieces chosen by the candidate:
a) G. BOTTESINI, Allegretto Capriccio alla Chopin
b) G. BOTTESINI. Fantasy from the Sonnambula
c) G. BOTTESINI, Grande Allegro alla Mendelssohn
d) R. GLIERE, Intermezzo and Tarantella
THE FINAL
Performance of a concert or sonata of the candidate's choice:
a) G. BOTTESINI, Concerto in B minor
b) A. MISEK, Sonata n. 2
c) N. ROTA, Divertimento concertante
d) F. SCHUBERT, Arpeggione
e) S. KOUSSEVITZKY, Op. 3
All tests will be open to the public limited to the anti-Covid19 government provisions in force at the time.
All the tests may be registered in part or in full by the Organization.
In the event that the competitors present themselves without a pianist, they will be able to use the accompanist made available by the Organization upon notice in the application form for participation in the Competition. Competitors wishing to use it must present themselves with the piano part, carried in the key according to the solo tuning, under penalty of exclusion from the Competition.
Candidates must in any case specify, in the application form, the titles of the pieces chosen for each of the reference sessions.

Art. 9
If a member of the Commission is a relative (up to the second grade) or teacher of a competitor, he cannot be called to be part of the Jury.
Art. 10
The Commissions have the right to interrupt the execution at any time.
The passage from the ELIMINATORY to the SEMIFINAL will be based on the “Admitted - Not Admitted” judgment as well as for the passage from the SEMIFINAL to the FINAL. For the last test (FINAL) the three Juries will apply a vote from 1 to 100.
The decisions of the Selection Boards are final and unappealable
